An Idle Mind: Reece is living out his ordinary life in his humdrum world. Things happen around him, just not to him. He has a pretty naive outlook on the world-until...
Draw the Line: From deep within Reece, comes an unfamiliar, unexpected moral issue. His closest female friend, Sara, whom he has known for years creeps into his dreams. She has always been there, she soothes his terrifying nightmares. Bad dreams he has had many years. He cares very deeply for her. He longs to be more than just mere friends though, but he refuses to acknowledge his feelings which grow stronger seemingly every day. He fears to lose a friendship over these feelings. He is confused as to where exactly the boundary lies between just friends and gone to far. Oh, how he wishes he could step over that line. He finally confides his feelings to his best friend Tony. He tells him of his hopes, fears, thoughts, and asks Tony for his thoughts on the subject. Tony tells him he should forget about it and just stay friends.
Et Tu Brute: Tony has always been questionable in the morality department. Everyone knows this, even Reece. But Reece never thought Tony would do anything malicious to ruin their friendship. Sure Tony never paid his own way to anything, Reece always paid. Sure Tony did things to other people, but never to Reece. Besides, Reece gave Tony a place to stay when he needed it, provided him with rides, money, food. Why would Tony do anything to hurt Reece? Why indeed. After another typical day in his ordinary life, Reece tried to get a hold of Sara. "Hey T. Have you seen Sara?" "Yea, she's probably still in my bed." Your bed? What is she doing in your bed!?" "Grow up Reece, you know what she was doing in my bed, now get over it!" You've never felt pain until you've felt the pain of betrayal. Reece was devastated. How could Tony do this to him?
Cross the Line: Depressed and alone, feeling the weight of betrayal, Reece sat for a long time contemplating these last days' events. The more he thought about it, the more he began to think "Why should I be the one who always loses out, I'm tired of being alone." He picked up the phone, and called to talk to Sara. She answered. "Hello?" "Sara, I just wanted to tell you...that...I want to be more than just friends...Sara? Sara? Hello?"
Breakdown: "What have I done? I have messed up everything." "I've lost everything that matters to me, Sara, Tony...me." Reece, in a fragile state, began to lose sleep, he could not eat, he could not function. His thought turned very dark and even the thought of killing is ex best friend surfaced within his deluded mind. He began a fast spiral downward.

What is Real?: Without sleep, and with his dark thoughts swirling, Reece became lost in a world of illusion, a world of his own making. Personal Demons came to haunt him. His nightmares come to life before him. "If only I had not said anything to Tony or Sara..." "I can't go on like this, what am I going to do...I'm losing it. Who are you?" "I am just a figment, but to you I am real. Tell me, Where do you keep your God...are you sure...are you sure?" |

Nothing Remains: In his induced slumber the swirling agony and crushing heartache took a firm hold on Reece's soul. In his mind Reece screams for the pain to stop, he begs to be released from his inner torment. Whispers on a distant gale seem to draw him back...back to... to somewhere.
End of the Line: Reece sees himself as child lost and alone. He wishes to no longer be. "Why must I go on, can't I just die?" The whispers seem louder now, he can almost make out the words. "We can't find anything physically wrong with him, he is just willing himself to die." "There is nothing left of me now...it is time to move on...alone" "This is the end of my life."
Beyond the Wake: Reece opens his eyes and looks around. He sees people in a room standing over a form. His eyes take in the still figure. He feels himself rise up above the group to look down from on high until he passes beyond the room. Faster and faster he moves through the murky haze seeing glimpses of the world. Things he remembers and things he has never seen. Reece realizes a recurrent theme...Sara has always been with him. He had never lost her. She was there when he needed a friend. She was there to soothe him when he trembled in fear from his nightmares. She was there as he lay dieing. She is still there. He races back to the room where he now knows she waits for him to wake.
Out of Control: Once he opened his eyes, the first thing he saw was Sara, tears streaming down to fall from her chin. He sat up and embraced her. I love you too is all she said. "I'm done living my life as I have always done. Always in fear, always by someone else's schedule, by someone else's rules. I gotta get up, I gotta get out."
Dnim Eldi Na: For Reece there is no looking to the past, no going back. Today he is a new man. Today, he truly lives. |
